The Truck Driver Training course at Greenville Technical College is nine weeks long and eight hours per day, Monday through Thursday. Field testing after periods of practice are graded on coupling and uncoupling, pretrip inspections, and backing. Driving tests are on city streets, secondary roads, and interstate highways. Classroom subjects are CDL manual, shifting patterns, brake systems, log regulations, defensive driving, preventive maintenance, weights and lengths, freight handling, hazardous materials, and Road Atlas. Students who complete the course can take the license test for Class A CDL during the 9th week of class. Classes are offered 6 times a year with a maximum of 25 students per class.
