Research the following to find the school for you.

Cost - $1000 to
$6000

Location – Close to home, do they
provide transportation and lodging?

Placement – Are they sponsored by a
company? Do they have placement?

Course Length – 14 days to 3 months,
weekends, and nights?

Certification – PTDI certified?
Getting your Class A Permit
Use these steps to help you obtain you permit.

Go to nearest Motor Vehicle
Department for study books on the following:
General Knowledge
Air Brakes Combination
Vehicle Utilize practice quizzes

Take the tests – All three need to
be taken, you can take one at a time if you wish.

D.O.T Physical and Drug Screen
A medical card is needed in order to get behind the wheel.

Some schools will provide this for
you.

Medical Card – 1 yr. certified or
2yr. Certified. A must!

Occupational Health Clinics and some General practice can
provide you with getting your medical card and Drug Screen.

Hiring Qualifications
Use these steps to make sure you are going to be a hirable
driver.

Check your Driving record; most
companies allow no more than three moving violations in the past
three years.

Accidents, do you have any, were
they your fault. Companies will want accident reports.

Any D.U.I’s or felonies, due to
insurance issues, a lot of companies will disqualify a driver for
having either. However; if you have a DUI at least 5 years old you
stand a better chance, though it will make your search
difficult.

DOT requires at least three years of
work history, trucking companies for the most part require 10
years. Get your facts together to make it easier for the company to
hire you.

You must be over 21 to run interstate commerce, some companies
require the driver to be at least 23 years old.
